Bug Identifier is free to use. You can identify photos and read the guides without an account and without paying anything.
Not professional advice
Identifications and guides are general information. They are not medical, veterinary, legal or pest-control advice, and they are not a substitute for someone who can examine the situation in person.
If you have been bitten or stung and feel unwell, seek medical help. If you think a child or pet has eaten a plant, contact a poison service or a vet. If you suspect damage to your home, have it inspected. Do not delay any of those because of something this site said.
Accuracy
Identification from a photo is an estimate. The tool can be wrong — particularly with blurry photos, young or damaged specimens, and species that look alike. Every result shows a confidence score for that reason, and a high score is not a guarantee. The service is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows.
What you upload
Only upload photos you have the right to use. Do not upload images of other people without their permission, or anything unlawful. Photos are processed to produce an identification and are not stored by us — see the privacy policy.
Fair use
The tool is for people identifying things they have found. Please do not send automated or bulk requests, try to use the identification service for unrelated purposes, or interfere with the site's operation. We may limit or block use that does.
Our content
The guides, text and design of this site belong to Bug Identifier. You are welcome to link to any page and to quote short passages with a link back. Please do not republish whole pages.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, Bug Identifier is not liable for loss or damage arising from use of the site or reliance on its identifications or guides. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited by law.
